My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

I cried and sniffed through most of this movie. They even had geneology in it for pete’s sake.

I laughed a great deal too, but it was so relatable. Aging parents, surley children, working on your marriage while being pulled in all directions.

My husband was sweet and watched it with me. He enjoyed it – he is so old school. He love traditions and our own big family.

Last week we watched his movie pick – London has Fallen.

There is a scene where  Toula is looking at a photo of her daughter Paris before she was a teen. How many times have I done that myself.

July Mini Vacation

20 + Years

Life after Homeschooling

For over 20 years (5 children) at this time of the year I would be making lessons plans, gathering unit study supplies and making books lists in preparation for the new school year.
Not this year. This year I am under the shady tree with a cold drink and a stack of my favorite magazines.

Birthday Month

July is the birthday month for us. It used to be April, but as our little family has grown via weddings, July is it.

First birthday of the month is our son-in-law. He turned 25 this year. He did not want a fuss. Our daughter/his new wife decorated the chocolate cake I made.

Juan and Josh Birthday Party

The 4th of July

I am looking forward to the 4th of July. I am looking forward to yummy food, family and fireworks.
Our small town is putting on a fireworks show this year! And for the third year in a row our family will head to the street near our home and watch the Independence Day Parade.

Yes, it is going to be a good holiday.

Sunny Summer Day

The kids, myself and the my daughter’s finance went the water park a few days ago. We had a wonderful time.

My relaxing time at the water park.

My knee was acting up but I had a blast anyway!

After a fun day at the water park - the last 30 minutes of the wave pool, poor thing was lifted up by a wave and landed badly. Broken foot. Out of work for a week so far.

The last 30 minutes of the wave pool, our poor Amanda was lifted up by a wave and landed badly. Broken foot. Out of work for a week so far.

This has been such and odd two months. I have been coming to terms with the fact that my children are young adults, married, have drivers licenses and do not need me to drive them to work, another is newly engaged. The last one turned 18, graduated and ended my 25 plus years of homeschooling and on and on the changes keep happening.

I am glad to have some breathing space for myself, but cried many tears over the chapters that are ending. We are not empty nester’s, but they have their own lives now. Dinners together that I held so dear rarely happen with everyones schedules.

And then in a blink of and eye I am back to making and serving meals, propping pillows, and setting up orthopedic doctor appointments.

These changes are one reason I have really gotten back into photography. I need to do something I enjoy. I need something that makes me focus and gives me confidence.

I found an on-line photography class. I am very excited about it. Her name is Janet and the website is Definitely Dreaming .

Kids and the Internet! Pumpkin Ginger Spice Cupcakes

Who would have thought my daughter would be such a resource for recipes. Sure on the internet she finds cool make-up, which nail polish brands to skip and lots of “feels”, but lately she has been finding the yummiest sweets and dishes to try out. The latest is Pumpkin Ginger Spice Cupcakes from Julia Graf. These are awesome! We had a good time baking for hours. Yes, baking pumpkin puree from scratch can take awhile. We are in California and opted for baking the pumpkin in the oven like a acorn squash. I put water in the pan in an effort to “steam” it. It worked pretty well. We cooked them at 400 degrees for 50 min, turning them half way through and keeping an eye on them towards the end.

This batter was very yummy!
