Henrietta

New Chicken

That is what we named the above chicken.

She arrived early one morning, just flew over the fence and there she was.

I checked with the neighbor who has pet chickens thinking she had ran away.

The neighbor came over to get her, stopped and said “My chickens are white”.

We waited 2 days to see if she would stay. I gave her a bowl of water right away and she ate all the snail and slugs and other bugs she seemed to like.

We went to the Tractor Supply store and bought her laying feed. We looked at coops and enclosures. I just don’t have the heart to fence her in. My flower beds are suffering for it. Right now she is sleeping in the apple tree at night. We will probably get a coop before the rain and winter get in full swing.

Henrietta lays eggs. They are a white/light cream color and small.

She has gotten used to us. We are in our yard a lot and she no longer runs away and even gets fairly close to us if we stand still.

I have always wanted chickens. 13 years now I have had thought of chickens but would push it out of my mind.

Everyone loves her. My husband has made it his job to collect the eggs on the weekend.

I hope she stays. We have no idea where she came from.

The 4th of July

I am looking forward to the 4th of July. I am looking forward to yummy food, family and fireworks.
Our small town is putting on a fireworks show this year! And for the third year in a row our family will head to the street near our home and watch the Independence Day Parade.

Yes, it is going to be a good holiday.

Sunny Summer Day

The kids, myself and the my daughter’s finance went the water park a few days ago. We had a wonderful time.

My relaxing time at the water park.

My knee was acting up but I had a blast anyway!

After a fun day at the water park - the last 30 minutes of the wave pool, poor thing was lifted up by a wave and landed badly. Broken foot. Out of work for a week so far.

The last 30 minutes of the wave pool, our poor Amanda was lifted up by a wave and landed badly. Broken foot. Out of work for a week so far.

This has been such and odd two months. I have been coming to terms with the fact that my children are young adults, married, have drivers licenses and do not need me to drive them to work, another is newly engaged. The last one turned 18, graduated and ended my 25 plus years of homeschooling and on and on the changes keep happening.

I am glad to have some breathing space for myself, but cried many tears over the chapters that are ending. We are not empty nester’s, but they have their own lives now. Dinners together that I held so dear rarely happen with everyones schedules.

And then in a blink of and eye I am back to making and serving meals, propping pillows, and setting up orthopedic doctor appointments.

These changes are one reason I have really gotten back into photography. I need to do something I enjoy. I need something that makes me focus and gives me confidence.

I found an on-line photography class. I am very excited about it. Her name is Janet and the website is Definitely Dreaming .

Soul Care Seconds

Soul Care Seconds – day 4

I have never done anything like this Soul Care project. I ponder things through out the day normally. I try to stop and take notice of things. Beautiful, magical things.  It has been fun to do it as an assignment.

“Try and move about your day today paying attention to what is already holding joy for you, but also what you might be missing. Remember, these are tiny micro soul care seconds. If we capture them, our lives will be richer, full of gratitude for all that already surrounds us.” Kelly Rae Roberts

I think this week has been great for me because looking for the Soul Care Seconds has been much more intentional because of Kelly Rae’s daily prompts via email.

I took this photo this afternoon after my day was done and I could relax a bit. This is the view from my favorite chair.

The view while sitting in my favorite chair sipping something cold on this hot day.

Soul Care Seconds – day 3

“…witness the divine in everything and to continue caring for my soul.” Kelly Rae Roberts

This day has not been easy. It has been very hot in the central valley. My newly licensed daughter dinged the side of the car last night. Another daughter needed a ride to an appointment and on it went.

I did look for the moments, the little things that give me joy.

This evening has been much better, quieter, breathable.

My little blueberry  plant is in hiding from the birds. It amazes me that I grew blueberries!

Sea Shells

Our family loves trips to the ocean. Actually I can not think of anyone who does not like the ocean or sea shells.

There is an artist who does the most lovely paintings. Her name is Kerrie and her website is Sea Cottage. Her art and quotes are inspirational.
