20 + Years

Life after Homeschooling

For over 20 years (5 children) at this time of the year I would be making lessons plans, gathering unit study supplies and making books lists in preparation for the new school year.
Not this year. This year I am under the shady tree with a cold drink and a stack of my favorite magazines.

Glorious Saturday

I am stuck home today. The 2009 Kia Rondo had a breakdown. I had to leave it at the mechanic until next week.
The air conditioning compressor went out. On this car, it can not be by passed. I am not sure I would want to – the heat is on here in the central valley, California. 100+ days until October.

My husband had mandatory over time (and we can use the cash for the car repairs) and took the other car.

I spent time outside early this morning cleaning up two flower beds Henrietta clawed and pecked through.
Henrietta looking at me

Here she is looking at me like I am the cause of the problem.

We went to the California State Fair last week. I found out Henrietta is a Blue Gold Duckwing Phoenix.

The fair was fun as always!

Birthday Month

July is the birthday month for us. It used to be April, but as our little family has grown via weddings, July is it.

First birthday of the month is our son-in-law. He turned 25 this year. He did not want a fuss. Our daughter/his new wife decorated the chocolate cake I made.

The 4th of July

I am looking forward to the 4th of July. I am looking forward to yummy food, family and fireworks.
Our small town is putting on a fireworks show this year! And for the third year in a row our family will head to the street near our home and watch the Independence Day Parade.

Yes, it is going to be a good holiday.

Photography Workshops

I am about to have all this free time on my hands and I want to do something in still life photography. There seems to be a number of fantastic on-line go at your own pace photography workshops available.

I think they are reasonably priced, but they are pricy at the same time. Many offer free refreshers.

October will be here Tomorrow

I am excited about that. I love the fall. Oh wait. 100 degrees here in the central valley (sad face as the kids say) Well I can wait another week for the temperature to drop.

I noticed last week at WalMart the Fall/Halloween items were getting pushed aside for the Christmas inventory. This is not a bad thing. I think I have gotten the hang of things* and plan on doing my Christmas shopping this week and the next. I am glad I can dive in and the stores are a step ahead of me.

I have decided to do a photo a day posting. Here is the first installment. 17 miles a hour. What an odd speed.

*The husband has not had full time employment since 2010. We have 5 children and my brother moved in with us for his economic survival. That makes 8 of us. I have $125.00 a week to feed all of us, very tricky in California. We do with out many things, just like many other people around us seem to have to. I swear this is like the great depression of the 1930’s. We keep our heads up and hope for better days ahead.

Photo Inspiration

My new issue of Hy-Vee’s “Seasons” magazine has arrived – sent all the way to California.  I first saw a back issue of Seasons in PDF form. I was in love with the photography. Kitchens, families doing family stuff and food! I decided to subscribe to the free publication and noticed Wanda Ventling was the editor. I am a fan of Wanda Ventling. My Dad’s home town, Ottumwa Ia has a Hy-Vee and family still shops there.

Each issue not only inspires me in my photography, but the articles are interesting and I enjoy the magazine as much as any I could buy. Here is a 2008 Christmas issue. Ha! fixed my typo :- }
